Soul/Spirit

Spirituality has always been such an important part of my life. When things were tough, feeling a connection to a Higher Being was the most soothing thing in the world. Knowing that I could find peace in the chaos of life was such an important escape for me. Most people don't realize that they have the ability to escape the chaos of life without going anywhere. You have the ability to escape into your own mind and find peace there within yourself.  

I have been on my spiritual journey for most of my life and have really learned what being a spiritual being means to me in the past few years. It was a very long building process where I learned so much about myself on such a deeper level and have a great new outlook on each experience I have. I have come to learn and wholeheartedly believe that spirituality is a lifelong journey of keeping peace in your mind and soul. Everyone’s journey will be different because spirituality is a personal voyage to self acceptance and appreciation of your journey.

Spirituality is all about accepting your authentic self. While this may seam like an easy, surface level feat – it usually is not. Many of us harbor regrets or want to forget about parts of our past, and both of these feelings are totally normal. Being in touch with your spiritual side helps you to appreciate each decision you made and each hardship you’ve endured. Further than that, becoming more spiritual and accepting of your journey will hopefully one day allow you to wear these experiences as badges of honor that you are proud of because they reflect your authentic self. Even if you’ve come a long way from some of the darker and harder times in your life, they will always remain a part of your journey in shaping you to be the person you are today!

The beautiful thing about spirituality is that you’re always learning new ways to be in touch with your spiritual side. Because it is a constant conversation, you will continue to grow into your fullest being and the more you connect with your spirit, the more whole you will become. From my experience, spirituality encourages you to have as many conversations with people about their journeys so that you can learn from theirs just as they can learn from yours. I have learned that the more wisdom you can impart on others freely and truly the more you will feel your connection with your inner soul growing! Because everyone sees things and feels things differently, each conversation will give you new insight that could change your life! No conversation is ever wasted because you will see that there is something to learn from everybody!

It is so wonderful to actually see yourself connecting with your own inner soul and all of the joys it can bring into your life. When you do this you will find you are more open to love, success and all of the wonders of the world as you find yourself embracing everything that comes into your life. Not only this, but you will come to accept your journey up to this point and you’ll find yourself being so proud of the person you’ve become! Spirituality is a lifelong journey in which you will grow as a person just as your connection to your inner soul flourishes. 

We have all learned through our own experiences that life is unpredictable and sometimes chaotic. As much as we may try, we can’t control everything and sometimes we just need a warm, tropical vacation far away from it all. Unfortunately, tropical vacations don’t just present themselves when we need a break from reality, so here are some the ways that I bring peace to my sometimes chaotic life!

You Are Wonderful, So Write About It!

JamieLee starts off every morning by taking a half hour to write down some of the things that she likes about herself and some of the positive things in her life. This exercise was suggested to JamieLee by one of her acting coaches and it has made a tremendous impact on JamieLee’s life.  

This writing exercise helps JamieLee begin her day on a positive note by brining to mind all of the positivity in her life, regardless of the obstacles and negativity that she may have to endure. You should never lose sight of the positive things in your life 

To do JamieLee’s morning writing exercise to start off your day on a positive note, follow these instructions:

  1. Get a notepad and a pen.
  2. Write out as many pages as necessary that depict all of the qualities about yourself that you like. Maybe you like your eyes or maybe you like how you’re a good listener, or both! There is no limit and you should let yourself know how much you love yourself! 
  3. Repeat the next morning. 

Meditate

Meditation is a great way to escape to your eternal oasis even during your most choaotic days. This is JamieLee’s advice on how to meditate!

It is very important to meditate in a calm, peaceful environment. When it is time for you to meditate, tell everyone who you think might try to contact you that you will be unreachable for a short amount of time. Find a comfortable couch or sitting area where you feel at peace and comfortable. Sit “Indian Style” with your hands resting on your legs and your palms up to the sky. This allows for your energy to circulate through your palms. Try to stop your mind from wandering by concentrating on your breath. Inhale. Exhale. Repeat. By focusing only on your breath, your mind will eventually clear and allow you to reach a deep, clear oasis within yourself. 

It is not uncommon to fall asleep while meditating because you bring yourself to such a relaxed place! When you wake up or come out of your meditation you should feel at peace, your mind should be clear and you should feel rejuvenated! 

Everyone has their own styles of meditating that works best for them and I encourage all of you to find yours! 

Surround Yourself With All Things Positive

One of the greatest things you will learn in life is how to cut out the negativity from you life. Whether it is a person who brings you down or a bad habit, we as human beings have the choice to cut them out of our lives. 

When you surround yourself with positive people and practice positive habits, you will see a positive change within yourself. By cutting out the negativity in your life you will find that your soul is lighter and you will have far less stress.

Have A De-Cluttered Oasis

While we may not initially reach this conclusion on our own, a clean, open space is very calming. Whether on a beach or in a clean, open room, the visual clarity is very calming for the spirit. Make sure you have a room in your home or a chair on your patio that allows you to appreciate an open space.
