I LOVE to travel! Whether it is taking my yacht down to the Caribbean or up to Maine or traveling through Europe, I love seeing everything this diverse world has to offer. I am so fortunate to have gotten the opportunity to do so much traveling so I would love to share some of my experiences and favorite places with you! This page will be constantly updated and a new destination will be added every month so be sure to check back!

January’s Destination Of The Month: St. Thomas

If you’re looking for a vacation where you can either completely relax or be really busy then St. Thomas is for you! This small island is located in the Caribbean Sea and is part of the US Virgin Islands where the average temperature, even in the winter, is in the very high eighties! While the island is only 32-square-miles, there are so many different things to do!

I was lucky enough to visit St. Thomas and stay at the Ritz Carleton last month, so here are some of the activities that I recommend!

1. Relax!

One of my favorite parts about my trip to St. Thomas was that I was almost forced to relax and unwind!  Everyone there is on “Island Time” and the ambiance there is so relaxing. At the beginning of my trip I was pretty anxious because I was still on “New York Time,” but when you’re around people who are relaxed and just happy to be enjoying the day, it is contagious and before you know it, you find that you’ve caught the “Island Bug!” It doesn’t hurt that phone signal wasn’t great when you left the hotel building, either!

The views in St. Thomas were all “postcard” quality and really breathtaking.  It’s a quiet island and while it’s technically a US Territory, St. Thomas has the authentic island feel, which made the escape so wonderful. When I left this vacation I felt refreshed and ready to take on 2015 with fresh new energy!

2. Dining

If you like fresh fish then you should most certainly make a point to visit St. Thomas. For every meal I had the opportunity to try a different fish that had been caught that day! All of the restaurants had fresh fish specials and healthy, organic eating options, which thrilled me as you know that I am all about healthy eating! I got to try types of fish that I had never had before and the types of fish that I HAD eaten before were prepared in ways that I had never tried! Their use of spices and herbs was unbelievable! The sides that the meals were served with were mouth watering and unlike anything I had ever experienced before! Each dining experience in St. Thomas was truly new and exciting!

My favorite restaurant in St. Thomas was a place called Fish Tails Bar and Grill. This place was very casual and the atmosphere was great! The staff was friendly and the food was INCREDIBLE! I am a big fan of sushi and the sushi at this place blew me away! I came to find that the Sushi Chef at Fish Tails has a cult following on the island and is very well known… and I’m not surprised!! If you make it to St. Thomas – you really must try this place’s sushi! I may even plan another trip back to St. Thomas just for the sushi. THAT GOOD!

There were a lot of really delicious, quality restaurants on the Ritz Carleton premises that I had the pleasure of experiencing.  Bleuwater was phenomenal, had a beautiful atmosphere and served delicious fresh seafood options! I highly recommend it! You could also go into town and take quick ferry rides to other islands with more dining options! All of these places are very accessible if you have the time to spend getting there.

3. Hiking on doc island

Trip Advisor rates this as the #1 thing to do on this island for a reason! You can either take a boat or even a jet ski to this island for incredible hiking tours with the most amazing views! On the tours you’ll learn so much history from very knowledgeable and entertaining tour guides! Be sure to bring binoculars and your camera because the views are truly breathtaking. Also, be sure to wear close-toed-shoes! There are multiple different hiking trails since this park is over 100 acres, but keep in mind that St. Thomas is a hilly island and most trails will give you quite a workout!
