Negativity!? Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That!

It is so easy to get caught up (and sometimes even trapped!) in negative thoughts and energy. We can, at times, fail to realize that we have the choice as to what perspective we view our daily happenings with. We can choose to let unexpected or less-than-ideal outcomes ruin our moods and our day, or we can look to the light and instead focus on all of the good, positive things that are happening and surrounding us.

Let’s face the facts: bad moods happen. Whether we wake up on the wrong side of the bed or we let something ruin our moods, we’re all susceptible to letting our own personal storm cloud hover over our heads. Hey – it’s part of being human! None of us can expect ourselves to be upbeat and positive ALL THE TIME. It’s just not practical! I believe we should all feel and embrace the feelings we have, good or bad. If you feel something, it was probably warranted and you should know that it is okay to feel these feelings. If something negative happened to you and you’re feeling down, let yourself feel these feelings for a short period of time until you’re able to pull yourself out of it. We all get to the point where feeling these negative feelings no longer serves us. We only hurt ourselves by lingering in negative thoughts. What is, however, great is the fact that we can change our perspective and change our way of handling these less than favorable circumstances and feelings when we are ready! We just need to remember to look to the light!

We’re all going to face haters and people with bad attitudes who may try to bring us down. Unfortunately, this negative energy can be contagious, especially if we’re not aware of what is happening. Whether someone is jealous of what you’re trying to do or they are just having a bad day/week themselves, we are all going to encounter people with negative energies who will try, whether purposely or subconsciously, to bring us down.

If you have people in your life who constantly bring you down or have bad energy, consider cutting them out. You will find that by surrounding yourself with positive, happy people who encourage you, your life will be much happier! I have had to cut people out of my life on multiple occasions. It may not be easy, but you will likely see drastic improvement to your life without surrounding yourself with people who radiate negativity. Keep the negative behind you and learn to always look to the light and positive!

If you’re in a great mood and mindset when you encounter negative people or people with bad energies, try to offer them some kind words. A simple compliment could lift them out of whatever funk they are in and help them to see the light when they feel surrounded and overwhelmed by darkness. Positivity and good vibes can change someone’s mood completely and could even change their life! We never know what other people are going through, so try not to make judgment calls on the people you encounter until you know more about them.

When you find yourself in a funk where you feel immersed in darkness, try to keep your eye on the prize and look into the light. We are all fighting our own battles, whether it’s just one or a seemingly endless list, and it’s common to feel as though your circumstances are worse than everyone else’s. Even when you’re down, try to focus on your goals and the progress you’re making towards them. Even if it’s just one small step closer that you get to reaching your goals, celebrate that and acknowledge the small accomplishment that you have earned. You’re further along your journey than you were before!

When you’re feeling down, surround yourself with people, places, things or animals that make you happy! Whether it’s a snuggle with your puppy, a trip to the frozen yogurt store or a nice, sweaty workout – we all have things that we can do to lift ourselves out of the darkness and into the light! When you’re down, remember that life is a gift and that each day we are alive, no matter how bad things may seem, is a blessing. If you have your health, you are blessed beyond measure as our health is our wealth! Try to focus on the positive things in life and look for the silver lining, even in your setbacks!

We are all prone to negative thoughts and bad moods – even me! Luckily, I find that I am able to take a step back and look at my situations objectively after I’ve cooled off a little from whatever I am dealing with. Trust me – I, like everyone else, feel these feelings too and get crazy like the rest of us. Trying to balance my acting career, modeling career, my family, and my busy office sometimes makes me want to pull out my hair! You have no idea how many moving parts there are to keep tabs on at the JLA Office. AND… with me being a perfectionist, even the smallest little things can sometimes get me would up. Yes, my dear friends, I am human and I am a work in progress just like the rest of us. Once I take a look at my situation, I am always able to find some kind of silver lining or something positive to take away from whatever I am dealing with. It’s not always easy – but it makes for a much happier life when you can focus on the positives instead of dwelling on the negatives.

Each day is a new opportunity to improve your life and get further along your path of chasing your dreams. By staying positive and surrounding yourself with people with good energies who encourage you, you will see your life and attitude blossom! Try to live your life in a way that you look for the silver linings in your setbacks and encourage people to be their best, most positive version of themselves. By staying positive and surrounding yourself with positive people, you will find yourself enjoying and appreciating life so much more! Always keep in mind – what goes around comes around – so treat people with love, kindness and respect. In my opinion, the ultimate measure of any kind of success in life is having peace, so live your life in a way that will fulfill your soul. XO
