Your Life Is Yours and So Are Your Choices

Every day we make choices that affect our lives. Big or small, we are a product of the choices that we make! Not all choices will be easy and sometimes the best decision for you will not be the best decision for someone else. What is most important is that you stay true to yourself in all decisions that you make.

In my career, I have to make choices every day. Whether choosing which scripts to consider or which teacher to train with, each decision affects me in some way. I have learned to always trust my gut. Sometimes the choice that seems best for me on paper is in conflict with my instinct and more times than not, my instincts have been right.

When I am faced with a big decision I like to make a list and weigh the pros and cons. While I will usually have a gut instinct, I like to sit on it and allow my mind to clear so that I am able to make the best choice for me. At the end of the day, we won’t be able to please everybody with our choices and we must remain true to ourselves.  This is your life and you should keep that in mind when you’re faced with a big decision!

It’s sometimes easy to allow the opinions and needs of others to weigh on you, and sometimes that’s ok! It’s okay to listen to the opinions and advice of others that want to help you. Sometimes, having more information or someone else’s point of view may make you understand things about the situation that you may not have picked up on by yourself. Use this information to make they best choice! When you have to make a big life choice, be sure that you’re only consulting with people that you strongly trust and have the best intentions for you!

Recently, I was offered a role in a film for which I really enjoyed the script and premise. While I would have loved to play the role, at the point I am at in my career it was not the right time for me to take that role. I am so blessed to have other projects that I am preparing for to the point where I had to start making choices as to which roles I thought would be best for my career.

Unfortunately, in the process of having to make this choice, I hurt the feelings of some people by not being able to be in their film. This, of course, was never my intention and I felt absolutely awful about the fact that someone thought that their project wasn’t worth my while. I had to make the best choice for my career and unfortunately this project wasn’t it.

I believe that the film I turned down will find an amazing actress to play the role and that everything happens for a reason. Even though I wasn’t able to be in this film, God has a bigger plan for that project that I was ultimately not part of! I believe that everything happens for a reason and I really believe that this was the best choice for me and, ultimately, the film I turned down.

In Hollywood, actors and actresses have to turn down roles all the time because of scheduling conflicts or other issues and the roles still get cast by other great actors and actresses! Can you believe that Julia Roberts was only in “Pretty Woman” because Molly Ringwald turned it down? Today, we can’t even imagine the movie without Julia Roberts because she played the part so perfectly! See, everything happens for a reason!

We are all faced with choices every day. Some are life changing and some are minor, such as what color to get your nails done. At the end of the day, it is important that you stay true to yourself and realize that this is YOUR life to live! The best decision for you may not be the best for someone else, so weigh the pros and cons for big decisions and take your time to understand the consequences of each. You are in control of your life and you only live once. Stay true to yourself and remember that everything happens for a reason! XO
