A Lesson Worth Learning

The peculiar thing about light, is that you don’t appreciate its brightness until you’re in the dark…

Life has an odd way of presenting its lessons. We crave laughter when we cry, value our health when it’s weakened and truly appreciate the warm, beautiful love we have in our lives, more often than not, when it’s taken from us. Recognizing the highs only from the lows seems a bit backwards at first thought, but when I truly reflect, remembering the positives in a negative situation has taught me one of the most valuable lessons in my life.

Life can be laced with heartache and suffering, just as quickly as it can be blessed with success and happiness. There have been moments in my life, which I’m sure you can relate to, when you’ve actually thought you’ve reached rock bottom, and that you’ve exhausted all positive options around you. It’s in those deep moments of reflection that you realize your two options; stay in the darkness, or climb back toward your light. Committing to that climb, to better yourself and break away from smothering negativity makes you grow into a stronger, more wholesome and perceptive person. Life has taught me that the reason we appreciate the highs in is not necessarily because of the lows, it’s because of the climb it takes you to get back towards your success, and the lessons you learn along the way.

As an Actress in the roller-coaster entertainment industry, it’s easy to feel discouraged and anxious between casting opportunities and upcoming projects. Every Actor, Artist and Entertainer faces a taste of rejection, but we all need to remember that no accomplishment is just handed to you. You have to fight for success, and it’s often the toughest emotional and mental battles that present the highest level of success. Nothing amazing is ever easy!

Even in your lowest points, Life has a funny way of presenting gifts when you’re least expecting them. I first met the love of my life, Richard, in New York City in a time I felt truly lost from a recent career change. Meeting my best friend and husband was one of the most defining moments of my life, and until that moment I would have never guessed that beautiful opportunities truly do emerge when you’re feeling defeated.

Every lesson in life is worth learning and any mistake or feeling of defeat is only temporary. Remember, even if you think you’ve reached rock bottom, the only way you can go is up!!
