Defying The Odds

There is something so promising, wonderful, and unknowingly exciting about new beginnings.

As we breathe in a New Year, I feel a flock of  butterflies inside as I’m happily and anxiously thinking of all the new adventures 2016 will bring.

Do you have anything exciting coming up over the next few months? I know that I can’t wait for the 2016 release of my next full length feature film, “Day For Night.” Wait until you see my character, Elsa; I still find it hard to believe I was able to play someone so cold and heartless, ha! I was literally jaw-dropped when I recently saw some of the raw footage and know that this is going to be an unbelievable production. From the acting to the costumes to the stage set-up, it's absolutely gorgeous! Let me know what you think on social media when you watch it!

Other than the release, I will be busy preparing for my new roles, while passionately chasing new opportunities. I’ve come to find in this industry that talent can’t get anywhere without hard work, and that the only person standing in the way of your dreams is you. As I reflect on all of the beauty of 2015 and all of the unknown wonder of 2016, I have to give a serious shout-out to my fellow artists, and all those working hard day-in and day-out to make your dreams a reality.

We’ve all been told, No- to give up, and that a making a successful career in the Arts isn’t a reality. I’m sure you’ve been told that art can be a great hobby, and not a job; that it’s better to focus on other talents…

My response to that? Politely of course… Your dreams, your hopes, your aspirations, your goals, your talents ARE your reality. Your expression is who you are and this IS who you’re supposed to be. There is no other reality. You are blessed with a gift, and it is your obligation to express that in the fullest capacity you can. You are meant to showcase your passion.

I’ve come to realize on my journey that negative comments tend come from those who have personally turned on their own dreams, and I refuse to ever be someone that doesn’t pour their whole heart into their aspirations. I will never give up on my future acting dreams. Though the criticism can sting at first, or make you feel small, you have to remember to release that negative energy and always believe in yourself and your talents. You are gorgeous, you are qualified, you are smart, you are funny, you are true YOU are beautiful. You can draw, you can sing, you can write, you can act, you can cook, you can run, you CAN and you WILL make it.

You wouldn’t be at this point right now if you couldn’t…

For me, 2016 is about defying the odds. Shutting down any external, negative pressure and holding on to what you’re made of. Chasing your dreams can be difficult, especially when there are a thousand obstacles in your path telling you to turn around, or to take the road more commonly traveled. I urge you to ignore them; ignore anyone or anything in your way that can damage your positive perspective about yourself.

Make your magic, make your mark. Make 2016 Matter.

Wishing you happiness, health and tons of success in the New Year.
