New York Film Academy

If you’re in New York or the East Coast in general then you’ve surely noticed the change in weather telling us that it is officially boot and scarf weather. There is so much that I love about this time of year! The chilly air encouraging us to snuggle up to our loved ones, neighborhood houses covering themselves in fake spider webs and, believe it or not, stores are already beginning to put out their Christmas decorations!

This is a big week for me, as well, as I begin my acting classes at the esteemed New York Film Academy! As I continue my journey to take my acting career to the next level, I am so excited about getting the most out of every learning opportunity that I am presented with.

Today was my first day of this acting school and I couldn’t be more impressed! I think that there is tremendous value in learning the art of acting with a group of other students because you get to learn from their questions and perspectives as well as your own. Everyone expresses himself or herself differently and it is very interesting to observe your colleagues take an acting situation in a direction that you could have never come up with yourself. Neither way is better than the other, we are all unique and our minds work in different, creative ways! This brings me to one of the biggest lessons that I have learned so far: Acting is personal and there is no one right way to do it. You can go to ten different acting coaches who each teach a different style of acting. It is up to us as artists to find OUR OWN style of acting that is a culmination of all of the things that we have learned and observed over our experiences. This is why I think it is extremely important and valuable to learn as much as you can from as many people as possible. You never know when you’ll find the one method that clicks for you and really speaks to you. That’s what being an artist is all about – finding the best way to express yourself!

I hope that you are all being as proactive as I am when it comes to chasing your dreams and making them your reality. Life is always going to give you obstacles, it is up to you to overcome them and make time for your dreams and the things that matter most to you. I would like to leave you with one of my favorite inspirational quotes in hopes that I can help light the same flame in you that I have in myself. Good luck and I hope all of your dreams come true!

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want
to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”
― Dale Carnegie
